From Donna's Desk:

The first answer is often the easiest one to give, not the most useful one to hear.

People are remarkably good at adjusting to discomfort. We normalize it, work around it, rename it, and keep going until someone asks the second question.

That is true of health, workload, morale, and just about anything else we would rather not make a fuss about.

Sometimes a good leader, friend, or coworker is simply the person who notices there may be more to the answer.

So I’m curious:

What have you called “fine” because you had gotten used to it?

Who in your life knows to ask one more question?

I’ll be here, reconsidering every casual “I’m good” I hear today.

Donna
