Donna Lake Headshot

From Donna’s Desk:

Milo is thrilled. That’s the headline.

He got a new shirt. He got attention. He got told he’s “premium placement,” which in Milo’s brain translates to “I’m important and helping.”

And to be clear, he did agree to it. Milo would also agree to be appointed Mayor of Paperclips if someone asked nicely.

That’s the part that gives me manager heartburn. Not consent. The ease of getting it.

Because there’s a difference between “I consent” and “I’m being used, but I don’t have the context to know it yet.”

Parker isn’t forcing anyone. He’s just very skilled at finding the person who will say yes with their whole face, and then calling it a win.

So yes, the shirt can stay. Milo looks adorable.

The ad program cannot.

If we’re going to run a workplace, we don’t get to treat our most eager people like available surface area.

It's time to move Parker's playground.
